Eric Swann only son of Roland & Ethel Swann of Syston Leicestershire Messenger at Syston P.O.
In 1946 Eric had gone to help Mr Pyne village Postman at Syston. It was Erics day off they were moving a greenhouse near to Syston Railway Station Bridge when Eric was hit by a Bread Delivery Van.Eric was badly injured and as he lay in the road a man called Jack Wright who was in charge of some Prisoners of war covered Eric with a coat while waiting for the Ambulance. Unfortunately Eric died of his injuries. Eric was a 15 year old Messenger at the time. The photo was taken just before he died as an alter Boy at St Aidans Church in Syston. Eric had 4 sisters and the youngest one a Mrs Winefred McCormack supplied the photograph.
