In 2000 we produced a badge to cover the Telegraph Service in Leicester from 1870 - 1982, after the book was on sale Ex Messengers from other offices round the country asked if they could buy a badge as although it had Leicester on it the picture of a Telegraph Messenger on a Post Office cycle identified them to other Ex Messengers so now, perhaps others can proudly show that they were once part of a nation wide service that we were proud to be associated with. Many lads followed their fathers as Telegram Boys and were the main stay of the business. As I was always told, there were conscripts and volunteers Messengers were the superiors as volunteers!
